Yesterday was the Riverrock Mud Run down on Brown’s Island.  This was my first time in the run.  It’s a 5k.  While I know I can run a 5k, the anticipation was like I was about to get on a roller coaster.  I didn’t know if I could keep up with the ladies I was running with from Crossfit and I wasn’t sure how muddy the course was going to be and to start you climb a steep hill.  Gittery.  Scary.

We started, ran up the hill, and were even passing people.  The ladies were nice enough not to leave me in their dust, but I knew I was setting the slower pace.  Still, we passed people the whole race.  Huzzah!  We ran on muddy trails, thanks to the torrents of rain the night before.  We climbed rocks and stairs and hills.  We waded through the river and leapt over logs.  Finally, a crawl through the unfortunately rocky mud pit.

River rock mud run #ftw!

We did it!  I know I held the girls back, but at the same time they pushed me to run faster than I normally would.  It was awesome to be passing other runners instead of being passed.  Oh, the empowerment!

Instead of waiting in the round-the-block line for the hoses, we washed off in the river.  Then I turned in my drink ticket, drank half my beer, bought a “I run Richmond” shirt, and headed to Wendy’s with the girls.  The funnest.

I slept dreamlessly last night for the first time in weeks.
